The last relic of the fortified enclosure which once surrounded the town of Beaumont, the Salamandre Tower houses a small museum of local history.
This tower of the XIth century was built under Richilde, Countess of Hainaut and dame of Beaumont. Set in 4 floors, its museum allows you to discover the history and the crafts of this city of the province of Hainault, located very close to the French border.
As you climb 130 steps you will have the opportunity to admire no less than 650 objects such as Gallo-Roman pottery, reproductions of the famous miniatures of Charles de Croÿ (16th century), memorabilia of the Princes of Caraman-Chimay, Napoleon , Charles Quint or Victor Hugo.
You will learn, among other things, that on June 14, 1815, the plain that it dominates was the setting of the first bivouac, in Walloon lands, Napoleonic troops.
From the top of the tower you discover a beautiful panorama of the region.
