This 13 arches (each a full hanger) masterpiece, made of limestone, was built on part of the Roman road linking Bavay to Trèves (commune of Montignies-Saint-Christophe). Nicknamed "Roman bridge" for its location, it actually dates back to the Middle Ages.
The bridge (22 metres long, 2 metres wide) crosses the Hantes (a tributary of the Sambre), which current is particularly strong at that point.
Near the Pont Romain
- A chapel and walking path by the woodlands
- The picturesque village of Montignies-Saint-Christophe, so sweet with its traditional stone house
- A 17th century castle built on an outcrop, protected by remparts: a reminder of when the Hainaut had to fight French troops back.
