This Belgian brewery is nestled in the historic ruins of the Aulne Abbey.
History
Like many Belgian abbeys, the Cistercians of the Aulne Abbey had been brewing their own beer since the Middle Ages… Badly damaged by French revolutionary troops in 1794, the monastery sadly would close its doors in 1859 when the last monk died. Would the secular recipes tradition be lost forever? Thankfully not: a group of passionate friends decided in 1950 to revive the traditional brewing arts of the abbey. Its 5 fantastic beers are well worth a stop.
Your visit
The brewery, set in the abbey's 18th century stables, offers guided tours (tasting included). Contact them (a week minimum) in advance to arrange one.
The Tavern
The perfect place to enjoy a refreshing beer paired with terroir products. It even has a view on the Cistercian ruins.
The tasting room is big enough for 80 seating guests.
