The Liège-Guillemins TGV railway station, an architectural masterpiece connecting the fiery city, with high-speed trains to Brussels, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Cologne and Frankfurt. Rush there, effortlessly, to discover its cultural heritage.
The most satisfying way to arrive in Wallonia’s largest city is on the fast train from Brussels, which takes less than an hour before it pulls into the truly breathtaking Liège-Guillemins station, an architectural gem that would grace any of the world’s great cities. Designed by Santiago Calatrava (who also built the Olympic Stadium in Athens) the station’s flowing white struts are topped by an enormous glass canopy. It’s one of several striking symbols of a city that’s reinventing itself after the heavy industry that created it went into decline.
