The Paul Duhem Foundation, in Quevaucamps (Province of Hainaut), presents the creations of many artists from Belgium or the the North of France.
Safeguarding an exceptional heritage
Created in 2016, the Paul Duhem Foundation protects, perpetuates and shares works of brut/outsider art. Located near Beloeil, the Foundation represents 43 artists from Belgium or the North of France.
Highlighting the unique creations of vulnerable artists
The creations come mainly from artistic workshops frequented by people with disabilities, staying in psychiatric hospitals or isolated people, all driven by a pressing need to create. Our region abounds with:
- spiritualists
- textile designers
- builders
- raw writers
The Foundation makes a point of sharing this heritage, most often coming from the depths of human beings, so that it is not forgotten in a corner of the attic or simply destroyed.
Do we look at these works as works in the full sense of the term or by attaching the term disability or mental illness to them? Destigmatizing these creations is a first step towards the recognition of their authors and their integration, if not in civil society, at least in the art world.
