Folklore, nature and crafts south of Charleroi

Located south of the Sambre et Meuse valley, just 12 km from Charleroi, Gerpinnes has always been proud of its folklore and traditions, such as:

• its folkloric marches (protected by UNESCO as intangible heritage), the most important being the Pentecost one in honor of Saint Rolende
• its great bonfires, their origins being lost in the mists of time
• its medieval monuments, its castles, its fountains, its churches including the St-Michel church which houses the remains of Saint Rolende (presumed daughter of Didier, king of the Lombards)
