Visit the Château de Beloeil and discover its vast art collection, its library and its exceptional garden. An essential historical heritage in the province of Hainaut!
History
The castle, 800 years ago, was first a medieval fortress surrounded by moats. Over the centuries, it was slowly turned into a pleasure castle and has been the property of the Princes of Line since the 14th century.
The castle
- The castle contains a rich collection of works of art from the 15th to the 19th century as well as an impressive library home to over than 20,000 works and precious manuscripts.
- The furniture is a sampling of the works by the best French cabinetmakers of the 17th and 18th centuries.
- The paintings feature most of the family members who lived in the castle and retrace the highlights of their existence.
The French garden
Recognized as an exceptional heritage of the Parks & Gardens of Wallonia, the French-style garden of the estate stretches over 25 ha. With a harmonious range of bodies of water and greenery, a play between shadow and light, the space is maintained faithfully to the original 1664 design.
Amaryllis competition
For the Amaryllis competition, which takes place every year in spring, the Princes de Ligne open the doors of their home, decorated with 6,000 amaryllis grown by the Dutch house Berbée Amaryllis.
A multisensory immersive scenography
Until October 1, 2023, the Château de Beloeil will host a new scenography: an immersive experience showing visitors the defining moments in the history of Maison de Ligne as well as Belgium and Europe.
