Sculpted by a meander of the Ourthe, the Hérou landscape is one of the most impressive in the Ardennes. Bringing to mind a petrified spine, its row of rocks seems plunges towards the river. This walk wil take you through one of the wildest regions of Belgium.

This magnificent hike, heading towards Houffalize and Nisramont, first descends towards the Ourthe valley: ahead are the Virgin of Cresse-Sainte-Marguerite and Hérou rocks: magnificent site listedas an exceptional sites in the Walloon Region.

Departure: Place du Center 34 in 6660 Houffalize
Distance: 9.5 km
Level: difficult
Marking: walk n°11 (blue cross), walk n°10 (white and red rectangle) and walk 6 (marked green rectangle)

Enjoy this walk when the weather is dry: rain makes the sides of the hill and the shale stones wuite slippery.

Shortly after the Hérou rock, along the banks of the Ourthe, the path suffered significant damage during the floods of 2021.
