Discover Milmort, a thousand-year-old village, which becomes, once a year, THE place to enjoy oysters from Marennes Oléron!
Each December, Milmort hosts the smallest Christmas market in the country: it only counts one lodge.
Not any lodge, mind you: festive, convivial, it becomes the foodie centre of the village. There you can taste:
- oysters from Marennes Oléron (calibre 3, coming straight from the producers to guarantee their freshness) on their own, topped with melted cheese, a velvety fish soup or fried cod cheeks.
- Local velvety fish soup
- Cod cheek doughnuts
This is served with traditionally made pain gris (a bread made from a mixture of flours) and a lovely Sauvignon white wine. Crowds come from the whole region but also from Limbourg, Brussels.... and even from nearby countries to enjoy this tasting!
An international crowd
More than 35,000 oysters are served each year - bringing foodies together and delighting them. The profits support the village's youth associations and social works.
This edition is sure to top the previous ones. As we say in Milmort: "Oufti ! Quéne afêre a Mérmwète!" (Oh la la, what a feast in Milfort)
