Dive into oceans with the photo exhibition Seeking Sanctuary for Sawfish, dedicated to the sawfish: a must-see encounter with ecology at the Liège Aquarium-Museum.
Discover and protect the sawfish's habitat
With the Seeking Sanctuary for Sawfish exhibition, the Liège Aquarium-Museum immerses you in two vital sanctuaries: the preserved ecosystems of Andros in the Bahamas and the protected waters of the Florida Everglades. Through the lenses of Michael Scholl, Olivier Born, and Matthew Potenski, discover the heroic work of scientists racing against time to save the small-toothed sawfish, an extraordinary species now threatened with extinction.
Breathtaking images document researchers wading in the shallows, delicately capturing these marine giants for study. Each photograph reveals the urgency: fewer than 5,000 adults survive in the wild. Young sawfish, photographed in their mangrove nurseries, depend entirely on these natural refuges, which are threatened by coastal development.
Discover these underwater sanctuaries to better understand why protecting sawfish is essential for the balance of our oceans.
