  • Exhibition

Immerse yourself in Japanese culture at Stavelot Abbey. The exhibition "From Prints to Manga: Artistic Japan" brings together the great masters of the Edo period as well as renowned contemporary manga artists.

Prints of Yesterday and Mangas of Today

Prints are part of popular culture, reaching a wide audience, just as manga is today. The themes and symbols of prints are found in contemporary manga in new forms, transforming this heritage into a modern art form.

Numerous antique objects accompany the prints of the great masters Hokusai, Hiroshige, and Utamaro, revealing extraordinary artistic skill.

Major manga titles from the 1980s to the present day are on display at Stavelot Abbey:

  • Dragon Ball
  • One Piece
  • Naruto
  • Saint Seiya...

These heroes are presented via original drawings, dōga (animated animation), cels, and 3D statues.

The exhibition highlights a graphic tradition and aesthetic culture that has been passed down in Japan since the medieval period.
