The historic town of Tournai is home to TAMAT, the Centre for Tapestry, Wall Arts and Textile Arts of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

Textile arts: past and present

TAMAT is located right in the centre of Tournai, in a former neo-classical mansion designed by the talented architect Bruno Renard. Its collections feature superb 15th and 16th century locally made tapestries for which the town is famous.

The permanent exhibition shows stunning ancient tapestries along more contemporary works: quite an insight into the evolution of this craft.

TAMAT: supporting rising artists

TAMAT also has a restoration-conservation workshop and a documentation and study centre, which are both open to the public. The museum encourages budding artists and supports their debut shows, even welcoming 8 students each year to join its research departments.
