The Château de Waroux, at the entrance of the region of Hesbaye, is located at its culminating point (182 m high). Now used of exhibitions and cultural activities, it offers an ever changing program to visitors.

History

The castle seems to have been built around 1300, during the conflict with the Awans. At first glance, it seems rather austere, ready for war even. The external walls, made of sandstone and flint, high and hostile with only a few slits, betray its feudal origins.

Its name links to the war between Awans and Waroux, noblemen of the region, which took place between 1298 and 1335.

A stage for all kind of events

Now listed as exceptional cultural of Wallonia, the Château de Waroux, is recognisable from quite a distance thanks to its elegant spire. It hosts throughout the year:

  • Contemporary and classical art exhibitions
  • Concerts
  • Theatre plays
