The Waterloo British Field Hospital event offers a historical reenactment in the atmosphere of the British field hospital installed at the heart of the Waterloo battlefield.
Historical reenactments in Waterloo
A strategic site of the Battle of Waterloo in 1815, the Mont-Saint-Jean Farm served as a field hospital for wounded soldiers, giving rise to the historical name "English Hospital."
This event offers a complete family experience, blending reenactments, demonstrations, and educational activities:
- Living reenactments
setup of a historical bivouac showing the daily life of soldiers
staging of the military field hospital with period medical procedures
realistic evocations of the care and evacuation of the wounded during the Napoleonic period
- Animations and demonstrations
interactive workshops for young and old, including a soldier's school and explanations of military life
demonstrations of period surgery, to understand the methods of care on the battlefield, etc.
Visitors can also enjoy the presence of a blacksmith, guided tours, and captivating historical accounts. Cavalry, rifle and cannon fire, and more than 200 reenactors are engaged in period scenes.
