This fall, The Museum of Photography in Charleroi is hosting the exhibition named Surrealism, so to speak...: a title that states the difficulties in tracing the boundaries of surrealist pictures.

Surrealism in photography, in Charleroi

The centenary of the publication of André Breton's Surrealist Manifesto gives the Museum of Photography in Charleroi the opportunity to focus on one of the major axes of the Museum's collection, surrealist photography.

In addition to acquiring photographic prints, particular attention has been paid to publications, magazines, books and catalogues that were the main vector for the dissemination of surrealist photography when it was not yet the subject of a market.

The exhibition Surrealism, so to speak… is divided into 12 sections, composed into themes that are just as arbitrarily named, the arrangement thus deviating from alphabetical or chronological presentation.
