- Exhibition
The Mons Memorial Museum invites you to discover the exhibition "The Prison Spirit," an immersion into the solitude of a cell through the poetic and resistant perspective of Verlaine.
Poetry of Resistance in Mons Prison
The Mons Memorial Museum, thanks to Karelle Ménine and Pierre Liebaert, presents an introspective exhibition based on Paul Verlaine's experience. The Prison Spirit questions creation as an act of resistance and humanity in order to endure incarceration with dignity, and is at the heart of the project.
The poet Paul Verlaine, the nurse and resistance fighter Cécile Detournay, the poet and resistance fighter Marguerite Bervoets, and the poet and resistance fighter Fernand Dumont all were kept at Mons prison.
Their archives, although incomplete, bear witness to the power of imagination of those who resist prison violence.
From Saturday 12 July 2025 to Sunday 10 May 2026
- Tuesdays to Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
