The Destiny of Adamo, a Popular Poet
The City of Mons presents Adamo: Roots and Echoes, at the Reghem Room in the Jemappes Library. The exhibition offers a poignant journey through Salvatore Adamo's early years in Jemappes and the Borinage region, using:
- sound and visual archives
- personal belongings
- manuscripts
- testimonials...
The exhibition design highlights his Sicilian roots, the daily life of a working-class family in post-war Belgium, his artistic awakening, and his first steps on stage.
The exhibition is structured around three sections: roots and exile; childhood and voice; and the rise of a popular poet. An audiovisual presentation accompanies the visit, which concludes in a space for relaxation and reflection, featuring a letter from the singer.
The exhibition is aimed at all generations, with a particular focus on young people. It is a first step towards the future Adamo House, which will be located in the family home in Jemappes.
