An exhibition of contemporary art in Walloon Brabant

From the Renaissance, the grid, as a model for organizing space, has played a fundamental role in Western art. But it was during the 20th century that it became an artistic form in its own right, allowing modern painters to affirm the autonomous and universal character of art.

Since the 1960s, the uses have multiplied: textile weft, graphic grid, material support, typological system, spatio-temporal framework, computer matrix, narrative and documentary device – the grid is revealed as a complex and ambiguous structure which evokes the rational order of science while opening up unsuspected spaces for imagination, intuition and creativity.
