  • Folklore and Tradition

Come and watch this amazing cavalcade: a tradition dating back to Pagan times and referring to spring as an eternal rebirth. It takes place every year on Palm Sunday.

A centuries old tradition

The first Châtelet cavalcade was organized in 1861 for a philanthropic purpose, replacing the usual military march with resounding success. At the time, the organization of such an event left no one indifferent, each neighbourhood taking pride in joining. The procession finds inspiration in popular traditions, exotic folklore and local history.

The cavalcade of Châtelet, though still traditional, proves as diverse as it is colourful: amazing characters (the "Gilles"), floats, bonfire, fireworks. The procession usually starts at 3 pm, rue de la Praye.
