Ellezelles celebrates this amazing tradition every year on Whit Monday.
In 1850, after the forced landing of a hot air balloon in their village, the inhabitants of Guinaumont, decided to commemorate this terrible event by an annual Ducasse. The event includes marching bands, carnival floats, giant puppets (including Jean-Jean, representing the mayor of the time) who will leave Guinaumontat 3 pm and walk to the centre of Ellezelles.
Once there, expect dances, the traditional rising of the "Balloon Jean-Jean", places in a basket over a bonfire. There will be much to enjoy that day: beer, ham, tarte au maton (a tart filled a with a mix of curd milk, sugar and eggs)...
