The battle of Ligny
Ligny, a village in the province of Namur, found itself the stage of fighting between the Prussian and British armies. On June 16th, 1815, at 3 pm, a cannon was fired, marking the beginning of the battle with 152,000 men fought fiercely until 10 pm.
Napoleonic celebrations
Ligny brings the story back to life every year with a re-enactment of the battle, with hundreds of actors join in.
Visitors can discover throughout the weekend:
- Re-enactment at the 1815 ambulance station
- Meals prepared as they were at the time
- Life of soldiers at the camps
