Nestled between Charleroi and Namur. Ligny is a sweet, peaceful village. Little would you guess Napoleon led and won one of his greatest battles hereThis is the page of history this 17th-century farm, now a museum, is unrolling for you.

On June 16th, 1815, no less than 152,000 soldiers would gather here, fighting fiercely. At the end of the day, the Imperial troop triumphed over the Prussian ones leaving a dramatic battlefield behind.

Travel back in time

Visitors can discover the timeline of the battle through reconstitutions of historical scenes, engravings, historical documents, weapons and medical treatments used at the time. The collection dedicated to the British army is particularly interesting. The digital guides and interactive screens will make the experience more immersive for a younger public.

The museum also covers the Quatre Bras battle which took place nearby on the same day between Marechal Ney's troops and the Duke of Wellington's.

The little train

Jump on board! A little train will take you to the battlefields where Blütcher and Wellington's troops fought.

By the Ligny Museum 1815

La Grange 1815 was used as an infirmary during the battle. It is now a restaurant, well worth stopping by for a meal in a historical setting.

The museum being right on the former battlefield, do take the time to enjoy a stroll in the area.

Follow in the steps of Napoleon at the Ligny Museum 1815.
