This excavation site, still active an open to the public, is one of the Prehistoric locations in Belgium.

Tens of thousands of years ago, this cave was a passing place for Neandertals. The Sclandina child, a skeleton from that era, remains the most important anthropological discovery of the 20th century in the country.

Your visit

Guided tours only! An archaeologist will show you around, share his passion for his trade (and how much patience it requires).

Between April and October (Mondays to Fridays, from 10 am to 3 pm), with a tablet, you can follow the discovery trail: 25 stops retrace the history of the work led in Scladina.

In July, you will get the chance to see students in archaeology at work.

Unique prehistoric remains

In the 'Espace muséal d'Andenne, you will see:

  • hundreds of thousands of bones of prehistoric animals 
  • 20,000 tools made by Neandertals
  • 19 remains of the Scladina child
