Les Bateliers, a cultural complex in Namur, is home to the Museum of Decorative Arts  and will, in time, welcome the Archaeological Museum

The building

On the Count of Groesbeec's request, this former shelter of the Villers-en-Brabant abbey was turned by architect Chermanne the 18th century into an elegant Louis XV style hotel.

Converted into a museum in 1935, its interiors were beautifully protected and is homes to fantastic collections of local furniture, glass and ceramic pieces. The original French style garden was reconstituted at the time by architect Hector Mathieux. Inspired by the neo-historical spriti, he gave the garden a timeless feel with a central water piece, symmetrical‌ box wood tree beds, a garden pavilion and a small orangerie.

A permanent exhibition: Family Home

This exhibition presents daily life in an 18th century town house in Namur where live, side by side, an aristocratic family and its servants.
